Move More, Eat Healthy Program
Move More, Eat Healthy La Habra Campaign
The Move More, Eat Healthy La Habra Campaign grew out of a grant that the City received from St. Jude Medical Center in July 2014. It recognizes that healthy eating and regular physical activity are key ingredients to good health at any age. They may lower the risk for heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases. The goal is to create a healthy La Habra where all residents have opportunities to be physically active, access to reliable nutrition education and healthy, affordable foods; making the City a place where all residents can prosper. Some of the improvements to the community that have resulted from the program include:
- Installation of aquaponics gardening systems at four locations in the City
- Installation of fitness equipment at Montwood Park
- Installation of new playground equipment at Montwood Park
In addition to working with St. Jude Medical Center, the City also is partnering with Friends of Family Health Center, Southern California University of Health Sciences and the La Habra Family Resource Center to help implement the campaign. Several committees have also been formed, including a Staff Committee, and a Health Educators and Providers Committee. If you are interested in serving on either of these committees, please email David De Leon at 562-383-4206.
Move More, Eat Healthy Cookbook
The Move More, Eat Healthy La Habra Campaign recognizes that healthy eating and regular physical activity are key ingredients to good health at any age. More than one third of children and adolescents in Orange County are overweight or obese. Our goal is to create a healthy La Habra community where all children and their families have opportunities to be physically active, access to reliable nutrition education and affordable healthy food options.
As part of this important initiative we are creating a NEW Healthy Cookbook. Please support this exciting project and share your family recipes! Recipes are due by September 19, 2018 to the La Habra Community Center. You may drop off your recipe or email it to Andrea Lira. For more information, please contact the Community Center at 562-383-4218. Download a Recipe Form (PDF). You may fill it out online or print it out and complete it.
